About Us

Project Ecology is a commercial ecological consultancy providing clear, practical ecological advice to support development and land management projects across the UK.

We work with developers, landowners, local authorities, architects and planning consultants to help projects progress responsibly while meeting planning, licensing and environmental requirements. Our approach is evidence-led, proportionate and commercially aware — focused on finding solutions, not creating unnecessary obstacles.

We understand the realities of project delivery. Ecology can be complex, time-sensitive and often critical to programme and viability. That’s why we prioritise early input, clear communication and robust reporting that planners and regulators trust. By identifying constraints early and offering realistic mitigation strategies, we help manage risk, reduce delays and keep projects moving.

Our work spans preliminary ecological appraisals, protected species surveys, biodiversity net gain, habitat and river surveys, mitigation design and planning support. Across every commission, we bring professional judgement, technical rigour and a pragmatic mindset — balancing environmental protection with the needs of development.

Project Ecology is committed to supporting sustainable outcomes that are deliverable, defensible and aligned with policy. We aim to make ecology clear, proportionate and effective — enabling informed decisions and successful projects

Our Approach

What Sets Us Apart

We believe good ecological work starts with clear communication. Every project is different, so we adapt how we work and how we explain things to suit the situation, whether we are speaking with councils, developers, fellow ecologists or local stakeholders. Our role is to make the important issues understandable, practical and timely, so you can move forward with confidence. Alongside that clarity sits a deep-rooted knowledge of the environment and the people connected to it. We are at our best outdoors, engaging directly with the places we work in, understanding them properly and translating that insight into useful, grounded advice.

Just as importantly, we are straightforward in how we work. What you see is what you get: honest advice, realistic solutions and a commitment to doing the job properly, without shortcuts or unnecessary noise. As a small team, we are also highly adaptable, combining specialist expertise with the agility to respond quickly when projects need momentum. We know that clients often need analysis, answers and decisions at speed, and we are set up to support that process efficiently, bringing in trusted expert partners where needed to make sure every box is ticked.
