- Biodiversity Net Gain Assessment and associated mitigation and discharge of statutory BNG conditions (BGP and HMMP).

Solutions:

- Maximise on site BNG mitigation through creation of appropriate habitats to reduce the offsetting required to meet the statutory 10% net gain required.

Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses required ecological support for the construction of a new commercial building alongside its existing operations. Project Ecology provided biodiversity-led consultancy to support planning and ensure compliance with environmental requirements.

The development required a clear Biodiversity Net Gain strategy to meet planning policy while ensuring the site remained operationally viable. The key challenge was identifying opportunities for habitat creation within a working commercial environment, where space and operational constraints needed to be carefully managed.

We carried out a full BNG assessment, including habitat surveys and metric calculations, to establish baseline ecological value and identify opportunities for enhancement. Our approach focused on integrating biodiversity measures into the site in a way that aligned with operational requirements and long-term land use.

The project achieved the required 10% Biodiversity Net Gain through on-site habitat creation and enhancement. Ecological requirements were met without impacting the commercial function of the site, resulting in a practical and deliverable solution that supports long-term environmental value.
