Grimsargh Park is a small-scale residential development involving the demolition of an existing property and the construction of four premium homes and a self-build plot. Project Ecology supported Holden Homes with ecological consultancy throughout planning and delivery.
The site presented a range of ecological considerations, including protected species such as bats and great crested newts. In addition, the development was required to meet Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements while maintaining a viable layout. Managing ecological risk on a constrained site while supporting planning approval was key.
We delivered a coordinated programme of surveys and mitigation design, including dusk bat presence/absence surveys and support through the delivery of a Great Crested Newt District Level Licence (DLL). Alongside this, we undertook a full BNG assessment and developed mitigation strategies that could be integrated into the site layout.
The project successfully met planning and ecological requirements, with mitigation measures in place to protect species and support compliance. Biodiversity Net Gain was maximised on site with support in seeking the provision of off-setting via the purchase of habitat units. The result is a well-considered development that balances ecological responsibility with high-quality residential delivery.
